Objects
Objects , 2008
In 2008 I began using small objects. The extensive collection of toys, figurines and functional knick-knacks I had purchased in souvenir shops and on flea markets in the last couple of years became my new palette. By gluing toys and little plastic letters on small canvases (in some cases in combination with painting or drawing) I began exploring intimate, provocative and absurd reflections on modern society and the art scene.
Many, but not all works in Objects are reflections on the concept of art. The works ''Playgirl'' and ''xxx'' invite a more erotic interpretation, where as ''Mac Fish, Mac Chicken and Mac Alien'' in a more ironic way, tries to point out that we have reached a stage where we hardly know what we are consuming, what we are eating in our largely unnatural Western society.
The work ''No title available'' 2008, is directly influenced by Georg Baselitz's upside down paintings and at the same time refers to the concept of art in general in Western society.
The work titled ''Tote Hase'' 2008 is my interpretation of Joseph Beuys' ''Explaining pictures to a dead hare''.
I slightly changed the famous phrase of Jenny Holzers' installation '' Protect us from what we want'' and created the work ''Protect us from all other Supermen'' 2008. The works ''Plastic renaissance'' and ''Warning this is a bad piece of art'' are also reflections on developments in the history of art and today’s art scene.
